
The Pre-Culinary Career Academy is designed for students to pursue a
career in any field related to the culinary industry. Students must make
a three year commitment to participate in a curriculum and program created to
prepare students for entry into secondary career academies.
PRE-CULINARY ACADEMY
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
6TH GRADE
CULINARY CAREERS I
During the school year, students will become
chefs and will learn to cook for themselves.
While creating delicious food they will learn:
The functions of various kitchen tools and
equipment
Dining etiquette
Sanitization procedures for cookware
and eating utensils
7TH GRADE
CULINARY CAREERS II
The second year chefs will transition from
cooking for themselves to cooking for an
entire family. They will also learn:
How to follow a recipe
Math, recipe conversions
and prepare shopping lists
Food safety and sanitation procedures
Nutrition
8TH GRADE
CULINARY CAREERS III
Chefs will apply their knowledge of cooking to
an industry setting. They will:
Follow large volume recipes
Budget for banquets
Prepare shopping lists
Learn the functions of commercial
equipment
Design a restaurant menu and kitchen layout
